The glamour and excitement of early space travel and exploration gave them the aura of celebrities; the very best combined movie star charisma and good looks with an athlete's swagger and the razor-sharp, streamlined, effortlessly cool style that Mad Men tries to duplicate. And we think that Malcolm Scott Carpenter may be the most charismatic, swaggering, and coolest of all.
