Collecting vintage apparel can take years. Pieces that match your personality and fit well must be acquired over time. There is an easy way to have that retro look and feel instantly. Wear bright red lipstick. Women of the 1920's-1950's were always donning these stand-out lips. It brought glamor and brightened their visage. Although some women wore a lot of eye make-up as well, I prefer to keep the eyes light when the lips are the focus.
Although red lips were once a staple, I found that women were quick to shy away from wearing anything bright when I was a make-up artist at Barney's New York in Beverly Hills. They would often tell me that red wasn't a flattering color on them. I would always inform them that they just hadn't found the right red for their skin tone, and there isn't a woman out there that can't wear red. It's really about finding the perfect shade. Celebrity make-up artist Jemma Kidd suggests a cherry red for pink toned pale skin, fire engine red for olive tones, and a deep brown red with darker skin. Make sure to keep that polished look by always lining the lips before applying since red lipstick does tend to bleed. Feeling as beautiful as the stars below can be as easy as adding some red.
